Sai Wan Swimming Shed HONG KONG

Sai Wan Swimming Shed HONG KONG

Nestled in between Kennedy Town and Pok Fu Lam, Sai Wan Swimming Shed is a beautiful area of water with an extended ladder for those looking for a more adventurous swim - or perhaps, like me, looking for scenic spots to flex on instagram :)

How to Get There

From Kennedy Town

There are may ways to get there from Kennedy Town center. We saw many large and mini buses going in that direction. Or you can simply take about a 25 minute walk towards the west on the right side of the road and go down the steps of the hill when you see the mint-painted railings.* But be warned, cars and big trucks do drive fast on this road and can be quite noisy and stressful. However, there are a few scenic spots along the way.

Sunset and Views from the Walk to Sai Wan Swimming Shed

We took a cab from Kennedy Town but our driver drove too far out and was almost at Pok Fu Lam. Noticing that we passed the Swimming Shed by almost a mile, we asked him to just drop us off - I didn’t realize until later that he dropped us off next to the middle of the biggest cemetery I have ever seen. Slightly unsettling but also very unique in nature, the large cemetery is built on three consecutive hills overlooking the ocean. I was taken aback when suddenly I was greeted by thousands upon thousands of tomb stones one above another on these hills. Didn’t take any photos because I thought it wouldn’t be too auspicious…

*Tip: The steps going down to the watershed is not labeled but if you are coming from Kennedy Town side heading west, it’s on the right side of the road. You will see two entrances down with railings that are painted mint-green. You can’t miss it once you are heading down the trail steps!

The Swimming Shed

We arrived around sunset on a fine-clear day and the views were drop-dead gorgeous! It wasn’t too crowded either but about 6 girls who were there before us were taking their sweet-ass time taking photos on the metal staircase/pier that I didn’t get a photo of myself but the scenery itself for photography was worth it nonetheless!
